Strobe lighting and the scent of musty old books rises from within the fog...
midwinter : (08 November 2017 - 03:29 PM) Ok, playing with headphones is definitely superior
midwinter : (08 November 2017 - 03:31 PM) I knew the music in Rei's house changed after Miku's chapters start but I never noticed it has these little bumps and rustles that make it sound like something's moving in the house
midwinter : (08 November 2017 - 05:41 PM) also there is more ghost talk during Kei's phone call!
midwinter : (08 November 2017 - 05:41 PM) i couldn't hear most of it, though, I need to listen again
Hex : (08 November 2017 - 06:12 PM) Yesss, headphones.  I think you can hear doors being closed in Rei's house too.
Hex : (09 November 2017 - 01:03 PM) Damn, I didn't know they were closing down the miiverse until too late.  My screenshots.  :(
midwinter : (09 November 2017 - 01:40 PM) Argh, no backups? That sucks :(
Hex : (09 November 2017 - 01:48 PM) On the bright side, I still have an album full of pretty scenery and Hisoka looking confused.
AnimalLover4... : (10 November 2017 - 05:59 AM) Nintendo shouldn't have shut down Miiverse.
AnimalLover4... : (10 November 2017 - 05:59 AM) People loved it.
AnimalLover4... : (10 November 2017 - 05:59 AM) And they should have incorporated it onto the Switch.
Hex : (12 November 2017 - 12:51 AM) Finally finished TEW2, t'was excellent.
GreekShadow : (12 November 2017 - 05:14 AM) I'm glad you enjoed it Hex!How was it comparing to the first one though(,which i personally disliked)?
Hex : (12 November 2017 - 12:11 PM) I've only played the first for a few hours (didn't like it much either), but it was a big improvement.  The gameplay is fun, the stealth works a lot better, the open world map isn't too big but there's sidequests (one with a cool ghost lady!) and some interesting things to do.
Hex : (12 November 2017 - 12:17 PM) I was really impressed with the story since it was one of the things that put me off the first. The last 20 minutes were so good, definitely one of the best endings I've seen in awhile.
Daz Hinasaki : (12 November 2017 - 07:17 PM) Hey guys I'm finishing fatal frame 1 on my twitch channel tonight! :) love you to join me https://www.twitch.tv/chunzbunz
GreekShadow : (13 November 2017 - 05:36 AM) oh sounds cool thank you hex!And for me also the story of the first one put me off, glad the second one is better
Hex : (16 November 2017 - 12:01 PM) TIL: ghost marriage is actually practiced in China.   :staffsan:
Rheo : (16 November 2017 - 12:13 PM) O_O
Rheo : (16 November 2017 - 12:13 PM) oh yeah there's a local movie here called The Ghost Bride and the actress playing that is half-Chinese

Ladies and gentlemen of BCL, we are very excited to announce the Fanart/Fanfic Contest 2013! This is a chance to make something cool, show it off and possibly win a prize. Sounds good? Good. Without further ado, here's how it'll work.

You will have six weeks, beginning on Monday June 17th and ending on Sunday July 28th to create some fanart or fanfic and post it in this forum.

  • Fic must be complete, and 1000 words or longer. There is no maximum wordcount.
  • Art must be complete, and either shaded or coloured - not just lineart or a sketch.
  • Fic and art must be new; they won't count if they've been posted elsewhere.
  • Fic and art must be original, not copied or traced from somebody else. We don't expect it to happen, but if we catch anyone doing this you'll be banned from this and all future BCL contests.
  • Obviously, fic and art must be inspired by the Fatal Frame Series. No crossovers with other series will be allowed, since it would be too difficult to judge fanworks of a series we're not familiar with.

We'll have two categories. At the end of the creation period, we'll have a poll where all members can vote for their favourite in each category, and then the distinguished judges (Fay-Sa, Hex and your attractive purple hostess) will select one entry from the top five to win the prize. The prize for the first category will be a copy of the Deep Crimson Butterfly Guidebook (Japanese) - even if you're not a DCB fan or haven't played it, this book is gorgeous and well worth having. The prize for the second category will be a fantastic and highly desirable Sae felt plushy, handmade by Fay-Sa. Please indicate at the top of your entry whether you're competing for the Book Prize or the Plush Prize!

All participants will also receive 5 reputation points and a special award, which is so secret I haven't even created it yet.

Answers to some obvious questions:

  • You can enter once per category. Even if you enter twice, you'll still only win one of the prizes.
  • You can enter as a team, but the same applies: there'll only be one prize, so unless you're in a position to share (living in the same house, for instance), think carefully about who'd get it if you won.
  • After some thought, we decided that crafts will also count for the fanart category, but cosplay and vids are so labour-intensive that it wouldn't be a fair comparison. Maybe later on, if there's interest, we'll have another contest specifically for those!
  • Since we want everyone in the forum to be able to vote on the entries, don't submit anything of a pornographic or graphically violent nature, please! Nothing that you wouldn't see in the games, basically.
  • There's no signup process. If you want to join in, all you have to do is create something and post it.

Any other questions, post them here!

Ooooo, sounds fun.

Is there a size requirement for any fan art submitted?

Hmm, I'll have to check with Fay-Sa, since she's the one who knows about art, but I don't think there's a size requirement. As long as it's complete and people don't have to squint to see what it is, it should be okay.

Double-posting to highlight a slight change to the prize format. We're still going to have two categories, one for the felt Sae and one for the guidebook, but instead of dividing it up into art vs fic, we're just going to let everyone choose which prize they'd prefer. So:

  • When you post your entry, please write your choice (either "Plush Prize" or "Book Prize") at the top.
  • You can still post two entries if you want, one for each prize, but if you win you won't be able to choose what you get.
  • You can change your mind at any time; just PM me or one of the others.

Hopefully this'll be a little bit more fair to everyone, and mean more people can enter twice if they wish.

The six weeks of creation time start tomorrow, and we're really hoping for a lot of entries! If you have any friends you think might be interested, please let them know as well!

Sounds like a great way to kick things up a bit around here! I do have a question though. Since I couldn't draw if my life depended on it (except for various lineart, but even those turn out horribly wrong), do Fatal Frame-themed graphics or photo manipulations in the form of signatures or wallpapers count as fanart? I concede it might not fare well pitted against a well-drawn and coloured art (it may not even seem fair on some levels), but I can assure you, just as much heart will be poured into it.

Hmmm, I haven't had a chance to check with the others yet, and I'll definitely clarify when we've discussed it, but for now I'd tentatively say that graphics will be okay as well? The more the merrier, in my opinion!

I'm glad you see it that way, Mid. Well, either way, I'm quite happy to report I already have two fanfics in the works, so I should be able to submit at least one entry in both categories. I'm glad too that we're finally given the chance to choose which prize we prefer (I don't really care for that Databook but I have been eyeing for that Sae Plushy for quite some time now). :P

I'm just praying for more free time to put some more thought into my works, since they're still a bit rough around the edges. It's literally been years since I've written anything and I feel like I've gone shamefully rusty. Juggling two jobs with university life (throw in Intermediate Korean Lessons as well) and tending to personal affairs, I feel like it's really going to be a stretch. But I'll free up some time for this, I promise.

Ohh I have some ideas for this! I wonder would you consider an artist cleaning up an older sketch and inking and coloring it to be ineligible?

I would really like to make a fic but i'm not really confident with my knowledge about fatal frame to actually make a good one(well at least in my standards) sigh..Only played the games which is like 1-2 years ago.Seriously need to read some manga or maybe the wiki xD.

Okay if i manage to urge myself to make a fanart, i would like to make something clear.

is it digital or on canvas or something?

If it hasn't been posted on the internet before, that would be okay, buuuut otherwise we really want to encourage new works for this.

Digital and traditional media are all fine. Use whichever medium you feel most comfortable in!

If anyone's worried about getting canon facts right and things like that, we're also going to have a weekly reminder thread that'll also function as a place for fact-checking, reference, support and general chatter, so I hope that will be useful! In the meantime, I'd definitely recommend checking out the wiki, if you haven't already. :)

I uploaded a fanfic back before the forums were remade, but I plan on reworking it quite a bit. Would that be ok to submit since I haven't put it back up on the forums yet?

Yeah, my answer is pretty much the same as for the sketch question above. The main idea behind the contest was to try and encourage new works, since the fandom's been so much quieter in the last few years. So, new means new, basically. :P
