Hex : (12 November 2017 - 12:11 PM) I've only played the first for a few hours (didn't like it much either), but it was a big improvement.  The gameplay is fun, the stealth works a lot better, the open world map isn't too big but there's sidequests (one with a cool ghost lady!) and some interesting things to do.

This is a topic for anyone who's ever spent slightly too much time seeing how far you can get on the banks of Whisper Bridge, or trying to get round the side of Narukami Shrine, or checking the locked doors in Rougetsu Hall wondering if there's some kind of sidequest to get them open. I know that as far as the game is concerned, these are basically the same as walls, and if we can't get in it's because there's nothing to see, but I do sometimes wish there was a bit more freedom to explore, and not as many paths blocked by two inches of grass. It can't be just me, right?

 

For example, I've always wished there were a way to get out onto that walkway on the outside of the Engraving Shrine, where the vanishing ghost of the Engraver appears when you're walking over the roof. I wondered if it might have been the intended location of the beginning cutscene where Reika walks towards you along a curtained passage with lots of windows that never appears anywhere else in the game. (Although I will say, the fact that nearly every hidden door and sealed room in FF3 can eventually be opened is a very big reason why it's my favourite.)

 

I also wanted to get into the room behind the reception in Rougetsu Hall, and up onto the second floor where there's a window that the hidden nurse ghost is looking down from. There's Iori and Yoriko's rooms, obviously. That door leading from the Meditation Cave makes me curious, too, and I really wish some of the doors to the outside of the lighthouse worked.

 

I'd also really like to have seen what Kiryu House had in place of Tachibana House's Row of Tatami Rooms, but that section of the house is all collapsed and boarded up.

 

And last but not least, the entirety of the Old House in Spirit Camera. GET ME OFF THESE RAILS, I WANT TO LOOK AROUND. D:

I feel this way as well.

 

For 1 the Narukami Forest.  There's realistically nothing stopping Miku from going off the path and exploring those woods.  Granted that's probably a very terrible idea but the option to do so would be nice

 

For 2 I really wish the game would allow you to step up into the Tsuchihara House.  Yeah I know you can see the inside from where you are at but I'd also love to be able to go inside there and run around.

 

I'd love to be able to explore that room with the curtains Rei sees in her daydream at the very beginning and I'd also like to see the inside of the Toilet Room in her house.  Also It would be nice to be able to see where the doors that Miku and Mio go through that end their involvement in the story lead to.  Plus I'd like to explore the Shrine where the Priestess' are laid to rest (literally since they are resting and not dead. XD) instead of it just being regulated to a cutscene.

 

And 4 yes I'd like to enter Iori's room and that nurse's room above the entrance hall that can't be accessed.

 

For Spirit Camera I obviously would like to be able to freely explore the Diary Manor.  I really like how it looks and wish the whole game (or at least the majority of it) was set in that house.

I've always wanted to look inside the closet where Limbo Man and Limbo Woman died.  Not a location in itself but it's something I'd liked to have a proper rake in.   

 

Some doors in 3 really interest me, too, like the boarded up ones in the Osaka House or the one Mio disappears through.  Where do they lead?  Which of Mio's memories are behind them?  Mysterious.

I've always wanted to explore more of under the manor in Fatal Frame 3. It always seemed to me like there was more to be found all around the manor. Even parts in the attic. I'm almost positive there's more top floor space. In 2 I'd like to explore more of the village itself. Like the old shacks and what's in them. In every game that I've played I've always felt that there is more to be found.

I agree with Iori's room, that one really bugged me. Maybe the whole everything being red thing was literal? Seems really creepy.

 

But mainly Rei's toilet :<

Any door that is "stuck fast" intrigues me, but most of all THE HOUSE IN SC! If the majority of the game took place in the mansion, and some parts you "escaped" into your world and had to look thru the AR book it would've been a million times better. The story could have been much longer, and instead of making it mandatory, the gyroscope could be an option along with the d-pad for control of the camera. Then SC could be played on road trips and sitting down in the dark and stuff!
I'd like to have seen an extra part in the ff2 wiimake with the tauchihara house too.
Oh and don't even get me started on ff3. There's a whole outside area of the mansion that could've been used at some point. Who wouldn't want to venture out into the snow?

I quite like that about 3, everything is very claustrophobic, even the outdoors sections are surrounded by high walls or completely enveloped by a huge shrine. It has so much of an effect that when the piece of cloth falls down in the barred hallway I was ridiculously excited just to see some snow and the corner of the shrine roof.

That's true. But because there is so much claustrophobia it would make a section outside that much more appealing if it were late in the game. I suppose there are the crawling around in the roof sections. I haven't played 3 in a while so I almost forgot about those.

Watching walkthroughs of FF1 again has reminded me of the space behind the Walkway crevice, at the back of the Storeroom. There's a strong suggestion that something went on there, since you hear knocking from it every night when you pass for the first time, and it's right around the corner from your first encounter with Long Arms, but you can never get in there. I kept expecting it to be unlocked later in the game, but it never was.

This door is hilarious because according to the map, it's extra-dimensional. xP 

 

Also, Tsuchihara house would get my vote, definitely. They make such an interesting thing of it with the grave shrine and Broken Neck.
