Strobe lighting and the scent of musty old books rises from within the fog...
midwinter : (22 January 2019 - 11:05 AM) yeah, there are a couple of different versions, i think
midwinter : (22 January 2019 - 11:06 AM) i tried removing the voiceover from the quiet version, and it's okayish, but it affects the music a bit too because the melody line is someone humming instead of an instrument

My friend has a Wii, and LOVES the Fatal Frame games. She doesn't have access to the internet at the moment, but wanted me to ask here for her. She wants to get the Japanese version of the game because the English VA annoys the crap out of her. If she ran the game through Riivolution, would there be English subtitles? I told her I didn't think so, but she wants more info.

Another question she wants to ask is, if there wouldn't be English subtitles, would there be a way to put them in the game? I told her, again, that I didn't think so. But she still wants another opinion.

The English subtitle patch for FF4 was possible because of the translation group from this forum, who put in the effort to translate the game's contents since an English version wasn't available. Seeing as there's an English release of DCB, no subtitled version was made. Riivolution isn't able to just automatically 'insert' subtitles into the game without someone making the translation first. And there probably won't be an effort made to make a subtitle patch, unless the people who made the FF4 one say otherwise.

So sadly, no to both questions.

Straight forward answer: The Japanese version (Zero: Shinku no Chou) dose not have subtitles or English text in any way shape or form. Riivolution dose not put (English) subtitles into imports, they just allow you to play imported games that are not for your region. If your friend wants to play the game with English text then the European version (Project Zero 2: Wii Edition) is the only option.

In case you or your friend are wondering, the European version (Project Zero 2: Wii Edition) is not bilingual, meaning there is no way to switch the voices from the English dub to the Japanese dub.

Straight forward answer:

Did I ramble a bit there? D: I apologize! I was trying to give enough detail to make sure it was easy to understand.

Persephone - Benja's patch group is looking into the idea of trying to 'undub' the game so you can have the Japanese & add in the English (or Spanish) subtitles. But as far as I know, it is being looked into right now, it is not available (may or may not be, depending on time/if its possible, etc). So what Takashi & Asou said still holds true at current time.

I know it's been a long time, but I thought I'd still post this here. I just used the undub patch for japanese audio, and when I started the game it still had the subtitles on and they were in english. So if you get the EU version and use the undub patch then you can play it in japanese with english subtitles.
