Because I'm curious: when you're replaying the games, do you usually use a costume or stick with the default? And if you use costumes, do you prefer to mix it up, or do you always use one particular favourite? Are there any costumes you never use?

I love this topic, I'm super curious about others costume habits ! :3

I can only speak for Fatal Frame 2, because that's the game I've played super duper many times and I actually have a costume habit for it.

When I'm replaying the game, I usually go with random costumes (but I usually end up with Type C, short yukatas with fox masks). But when I'm super try hard (in Mission Mode, Survival Mode or trying to finish the game super fast) I'm using Type B (Butterfly Yukatas) with accessories Type C, witch hat for Mio xD

I drew this for Fatal Frame 30, but this is still my favourite costume xD idk why

I usually stick with default unless I've played the game recently, just for immersion's sake.  My go-tos are Ruka's higanbana yukata, Misaki's punk outfit, Choushiro's uniform, Mio's black stockings and Kei's navy yukata.  No matter what, Ruri always gets the ribbon.

I'm so used to the default ones,so I use them every time.I actually even refuse to watch gameplay videos, especially cutscene videos on youtube with differrent costumes,it just bothers me for no real reason. Most of the unlockable costumes are not part of  my aesthetic anyway.Except for ruri, ruri always was getting an accessory.

Mostly I stick with the defaults but I will occasionally switch to a costume I really like.  The only games I don't do this with are Spirit Camera and 5 due to not liking the costumes from those games.

For 1-4 though my favorites would have to be the Yellow/orange school girl outfit for 1, the Sae and Yae Kimonos for 2, Rei's business suit, Miku's Zero costume for 3, and Ruka's Tube Top dress, School girl outfit, Misaki's Luigi and punk outfit, Madoka's Onryo outfit (especially with the ghost mod), and Choushiro's detective outfit, and the Crimson and Sakura Yukata's and Mario and Luigi outfits for Deep Crimson Butterfly.

Immersion is of utmost importance to me so I almost always use the default costumes in every game. Silly costumes break the immersion so I avoid them. Especially in games like Fatal Frame where the atmosphere is so important for the gameplay experience.

I only play the games after completing them for the sake of the costumes. I just finished playing ff3 with the pinafore dress and cat ears for miku and rei.

it's one of the things I like about the fatal frame series.

I usually go with my favorite costumes most of the time and go with another after a certain rounds. I sometimes like using glasses if possible. I'm not a fan of ears because they look silly or look like Elfen Lied horns on some characters in certain angles.

FF 1 - Special 2
FF 2 - Type G with glasses sometimes but switch around with Type B
FF3 - Red Yukata or Suit for Rei and Pink Yukata or Zero costume for Miku
FF4 - Dress for Madoka, Uniform or Tube Top Dress for Ruka, Police Suit for Choushiro, and Uniform, Punk outfit, Flower Yukata, or Luigi outfit for Misaki.
FF5 - Default for all the characters but sometimes use Yuri's uniform

SC - Gothic outfit (kinda wish Maya could use the Peach outfit for the main story....)
WE - Default for Mio and Mayu

I usually stick to the default costumes because like others have said it really breaks the tension/feel of the game otherwise. I might put glasses or yukata/kimono on some of the characters since those aren't too out of context. I tried playing the Xbox version of the 2nd game with the halloween/witchy/pumpkinhead outfits and just couldn't stop laughing at all the random times Mayu photobombed the screen.
