Didn't there used to be a mark topic as read thing on the general forum sub-categories? I was looking and then I didn't see it which looked odd to me because I remember there being a big icon you could click and the picture of the subcategory would be blanked out.

When you're viewing the forum, there should be one in the top right next to the Start New Topic button. It's just a text link, so it's not as obvious.
