Just a heads up this post contains spoilerish stuffs sooo just to warn ya. If you don't want it spoiled turn back. What has been cannot be unseen XD.

Anyway, I've been doing some thinking. Other than Vengeful Ghosts, and failed rituals there is another constant force in the Fatal Frame series. A family to be exact, and descendants of that family.

Miku Hinasaki, the main protagonist's mother was Yae Kurosawa's daughter. The same Yae Kurosawa that that ran away with Ryozo Munakata in Fatal Frame 2, and settled in  Himuro Mansion.

Fatal Frame 3 has a Kurosawa family member as well, but is Rei a descendant of Yae as well? Did Yae and Ryozo have more than one child? I kind of forgot :/. That would explain then how Rei and Miku met, and lived together. They could very well be half sisters. That could also in a way explain the car crash too since the Kurosawa family seem to be especially sensitive, and susceptible to spirits. It was also raining too, and water is said to be a doorway into the Spirit realm.

In the first cutscene in the ruined Manor or Sleep, Miku seemed pretty eager to leave (She probably knew what was up), and Rei got led into the manor by her deceased Lover, Yuu. A man whom knows Kei Amakura, the uncle of Mio, and Mayu. Twins who got lost in All God's Village. The Kurosawa's ancestral home.

In Fatal Frame 4 I really didn't know of any links to Kurosawa. I haven't played the fourth game, so if anyone could shed some light that would be most helpful.

With 5 Miku returns, and she has a daughter this time. Both get captured by spirits, and must be rescued.

What do you guys think? Do you think the Kurosawas are a part of the same family? Is there a possible link?

Would love to see your theories too :)

Well the initial Kurosawa line does certainly seem unlucky when it comes to spirits, probably due to their strong sixth sense. I don't think this can be extended to Rei and Hisoka though, because neither are from the same branch originating from Yae as she only had one child in Mikoto, who went on to adopt the Hinasaki name- there's no way the Kurosawa name would be passed on from her.

I think it's more that Shibata just really likes Akira Kurosawa and likes to spam his name a lot, but it's certainly confusing having so many characters with the same second name that are actually unrelated.

i will jiggle into your soul

Some of the characters with the name Kurosawa are given that name rather than born with it as well!

I think Miku's half of the line is extremely unlucky lol. But yeah some of the characters weren't born into the Yae/Sae family line.

Yashuu you could be right about that :/.

MacabrelleEnvy: That could be true, but Reika Kuze wasn't born with the sir name "Kuze". She was adopted into the Shrine wasn't she? She still ended up getting nailed (sorry for the pun) too. But then again her fate was sealed by the head of the Kuze family. Not ghosts.

TomoChan: Ya it's certainly looking like that lol.

I think the name Kurosawa shows up so frequently because of Shibata's philosophy that every game might be the last so whenever he has a good idea he has to put it in there. Somewhere around FF2 he decided that because of the underworld/water connection, Kurosawa would be a great name for a family guarding the gate to the underworld (plus the Akira Kurosawa reference), and he put it in FF2 because he didn't think he'd be able to use it otherwise, even though the imagery didn't really suit the Kurosawas of Minakami Village. Then he just kept finding better uses for it.

In-universe, it might be fun to imagine that the name "Kurosawa" kind of attaches itself to families and respected people who have some sort of connection to the spirit world, and became a surname because of that.
