Strobe lighting and the scent of musty old books rises from within the fog...

midwinter : (22 January 2019 - 11:06 AM) i tried removing the voiceover from the quiet version, and it's okayish, but it affects the music a bit too because the melody line is someone humming instead of an instrument

Chapters 5-6

Spoiler

All the same, I’m really starting to enjoy it again after that rocky section around Chapters 3-4. It feels like we’re finally getting somewhere.

We're officially halfway through chapter 7, and just over 36,000 words down the line, with the end FINALLY in sight (only about 80 pages left)! Things are actually starting to be revealed at last! We made it a whole chapter without kissing or dwelling on periods! We're on a ROLL!

Spoiler

Will we beat the movie? Tune in to find out!

Well, it's over. It's officially all over.

Spoiler

My only real comment is that I am thrilled, absolutely thrilled, that I will almost certainly never have to read another word this awful man has written ever again. Just when I thought I couldn't be any more annoyed with him, the end of the afterword did it. Just shut up. For all our sakes. Tiniest bit concerned if indeed it was Asato who wanted his (awful, dreadful) characters in the movie... But we may already be beyond saving if they retained even a fragment of the original book beyond their names and a bit of kissing here and there. It. Is. So. Bad.

Final verdict: 1/10 please burn it in the nearest bonfire and pick up a copy of the Zero Novel on the way home, it's one hell of a ride

Phew, that was quite a rant. But yeah, it seems like a lot of the things that annoy me are not present in the movie, and the main actresses are charming, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for that.

I absolutely agree with you. I was very disappointed with this and definitely felt like it wasn't even close to what we expect of the Fatal Frame universe. I was skeptical when it started because most of the games count on the solitude of a haunted location. As i'm sure we'll see in the game (and what's hinted in the background of Spirit Camera) there is definitely a way to achieve an authentic Fatal Frame feel in the midst of society. This novel, however, was way off point. I really hope the movie is better... But I almost have higher hopes for the Hollywood movie at this point!

I have only read 1,5 chapters so far, and it was enough to come to the conclusion that the writer was on crack.

Why is it Fatal Frame?

Why does lesbianism have so much focus?

So, what I got so far is that the curse is girls fall in love with themselves and other girls? Wat.  I hope this will have some real meaning, otherwise it seems like it's only there to have more excuse for yuri action.

It's like a bad Michael Bay movie. There is an evil nun who is part of some cult in Japan and *random* she was in Poland/Europe? xD And there is a tower in a school where she locks away the main character but only this nun knows about it? Not like, the more important staff members? Or is she like, the head lesbian mistress?

And why does she lock her away, anyways? To save her from the curse? But the curse is that she fell in love with herself, so locking her away doesn't help at all.

Why is it set in a Catholic school in Japan, where the majority is either buddhist or shinto?

Was it really necessary to write about how the main girl sees herself making a move on herself? like, it's creepy as hell. But not in a traditional FF way, more like it's creepy someone can even write stuff like this.

Then there is this other girl, who falls in love with the main character.

And that typical trash movie " chapter ending" where the evil nun manages to lock her in the tower, then she is like HA! It's all going according to plan!!!!  while making this face

I thought people only use this "technique" in cartoons.

I don't like to be critical usually, so I go ahead and just say that so far this book is like nothing I have read so far. Ahh... It's, pretty unique, I guess?

It seems like other forum members also found it exciting and innovating, so I will continue reading.

As of now,

I will rate it 5 lesbians out of 10.

P.S.: I'd like to thank all the forum members who encouraged me to start this book. Was totes worth it.
